TIGERS AND FLOWERS DESIGN MAKING PROCESS

Tiger is one of my favorite animals.

My Chinese zodiac sign is Tiger and my doubutsu uranai (doubutsu means animals and uranai means astrology in Japanese) animal is also Tiger!

Not only their beauty but also their independence and dignity very much overlap modern women’s image to me.

According to WWF, the decline of the overall tigers’ population in centuries is a bit improving, though, there are still in a crisis of existence especially in South Asia.

At first, honestly, these designs are made for comforting myself to face those harsh realities. But also I just wanted to DO something positive even it’s tiny thing.

Also, tigers are just simply magnificient and it’s hard to resist wanting to express them in an art form!

These are the 2 layers of the print images separately scanned. I combined those in Adobe Photoshop for color-wise reason.

How I made the Tigers and Flowers Repeat Pattern Design

These designs took for few weeks from sketches to the final repeating pattern!

But when the pleasant repeating came out finally at a late night, I was very happy.

Like, I woke up next morning to open my MacBook Pro and look the design again.

I know it’s embarrassing thing to be satisfied myself like that, but I was glad it still look good in the next day at least. And right now, too (hahaha).

The original design was the center, pink one. Then, the yellow and the green versions were added.

And then colored in Adobe Fresco water color brushes! I was VERY excited when Adobe Fresco was came out!! So I tried it and loved it.

Those flowers and plants were also colored with Adobe Fresco.

After those very fun sketching and coloring process were done, I moved to Adobe Illustrator stage.

After using the Image Trace Tool in Adobe Illustrator, now it’s time to make the repeating pattern!

Conclusion

I enjoyed making this design piece very much. It is hard to express the tigers’ beauty, though.

I love traditional watercolor painting, but I loved Adobe Fresco’s watercolor, too. It is way more under my control and predictable comparing to traditional one.
